by Michael Poitras
I am a painter and folk artist from eastern Ontario by way of Montreal.
I am self-taught, with much help from my mother [Bobi Leutschaft Poitras]. I have picked up a variety of techniques that blend together to make my personal style: heavy colours, impasto, and a habit of double dipping. A painting can start with a full idea or just a simple color, but usually the process leads me towards the final product.
I have learned valuable lessons about showing emotion through painting by seeing the many beautiful works of art done and displayed by members of the Collectif. I hope I can also pass along some inspiration to the next artist!
