Collectif Creativity: 19Apr2025

by Laura Peck

This post reflects on a reading activity at The Cline House, in Cornwall, Sunday Feb. 23. A handful of writers read/performed pieces they’d created in response to work in the Juried Show.

Exactly one week after the nice snow storm that kept us shoveling against the wind.

The drive from Alexandria to the St Lawrence River was smooth. The majestic body of water as mesmerizing as ever. A few minutes of pure bliss before reading about the heavy piece that inspired in me a two-part story.

Wrenched Heart by Mona Rutenberg is made of reclaimed wrenches and steel pieces. It hit me as I walked through the bright, lively exhibition a few weeks earlier.

Here is an excerpt:

Do you remember, my not so dear Mother, when you found his toolbox under my desk. You were so angry at me. You took it away from me. Threw it down the stairs. But the handle got stuck in your bracelet. The famous gold bracelet you got for your Anniversary. “The most exquisite piece of jewelry. And soooo expensive too.”
