Dear Marty, I Tried to Paint You
I can’t believe nine years have passed
Since you turned 58
Twelve days before our broken hearts
Collapsed before your fate
I think about you every day
And miss you even more
What I would give to raise my head
And see you at my door
We’d speak of all that’s going on
(You’d have a lot to say!)
Of climate change, AI, and war –
A philosoph’s buffet
We’d argue and you’d roll your eyes
And then we’d have a laugh
But now I sit and argue with
Myself on your behalf
It isn’t nearly as much fun
But it’s what I can do
As I contemplate your portrait
As incomplete as you
