I don’t think the Collectif has ever had a post, “My first art work”.
When I was young I made all sorts of animals out of clay. My Aunt took me to my first opera in Montreal and many other cultural events. I was very lucky to enjoy these outings. She insisted I take art lessons, as I was always making life-like creations of animals out of clay.
I was enrolled in an art class in Pointe Claire, handed a knife, paints and canvas and told to copy the painting. New to me, palette knife and painting lighthouses! I believe I was 16. Like man that was a million years ago !
So many things wrong with the little painting–it stayed in a closet for years.

Now as I age, I’m more forgiving. Or just, does it matter? It’s still art, the colours are nice enough. Funny how harsh we are with our creations sometimes, especially one’s first painting.
Dang, a great idea for Collectif Creativity – a very early work. Thank you Margaret!

A great first try, especially with a pallet knife !

Quite competent I think Margaret. One of my first pieces was also a lighthouse. I still have my first-ever acrylic painting. Not so much my early watercolours because most were dreadful. 🙂

This is a very lovely little painting, especially for a first attempt using a pallet knife at 16. How wonderful that you kept it all these years. I wish I had kept some of my early works.

What a glorious idea! Thanks Margaret. My first poem was quite pathetic about a little girl who was sick and alone. Supposedly me ahahah. I was none of those things. I’ll scavenge to find other firsts.
