Collectif Challenge: 3Feb2024, Sustenance (food & more)

By Milo Smith  Sustenance!  A delicious challenge, since that means food to me.  Here are four images from a pub on Lake St. Francis and one from our favourite Thai restaurant in Cornwall.

By Susan Irving    I had a brief spell of painting foods a few years ago. Harvest and Little Pumpkin Ripening have since been sold.  I am so glad I take photos so I can revisit these pieces when I no longer have them.

By Lynne Ayers   Water provides sustenance.  Sitting by the water and listening to the lapping gurgles and rolling waves feeds my soul.  Painting it nourishes my spirit.

Simon sat by the purring wood stove. The reddish dancing light comforted him. The room radiated intimacy, secrecy, and… coffee aroma. One of his happy places. His daily chat with the bubbly artist always recharged him.

With an affectionate smile the ageless lady looked at the not so young man. He could be her son. He should have been her son. If …

On this early morning, her mind and her heart were wholly turned towards the future. She bluntly asked him:

“So, tell me, Simon. What sustains you spiritually?”

And before he had time to collect his thoughts or his words about such a deep topic, so early in the morning, he was saved by the inquisitor herself.

“Art sustains me. Reading about it nourishes me. Creating stimulates me. Playing with constraints challenges me. Making something with limited resources fosters me. ”
