Collectif Challenge: 2Oct2023, Studio

By Susan Irving I made this sketch of a corner of my studio from memory, whilst minding my daughter’s cats and dogs. The perspective may be a bit off but as it was a fairly quick impression I think that is OK. The cat on the desk, looking out of the window,  is my own cat, Spyder. The sketch was done with a 4 colour pen I bought at the NationalGallery.

  • 4 colour ball point pen
  • Includes the colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black
  • Can be used to create every colour by combining the 4
  • Includes a mixing guide on packet.

My Studio

My studio is where
My heart and soul lay bare,
Where thoughts of gloom
And coming doom
Resume their love affair

My shelter from the wind
Where change is ever spinned,
I close the door
And hear no more
And daily cares rescind

My studio’s a nest
Where image takes a rest,
Where I can say
I’m not okay,
My spirit unrepressed

My very private place
Where no one shares my space,
A place where dreams
Can flow in streams,
Where mind and ink touch base

The problem with a challenge entitled “Studio” is that a photographer’s studio can be almost anywhere.  In the air, under the ocean, in the wild almost anywhere, inside anywhere.

Below is an image in Yvonne’s studio, which I “borrow” from time to time.  So, despite all the options, a classic studio shot.

CAGAC Studio Challenge September

By Lynne Ayers After settling down from prepping submissions for Cline House Gallery’s Merry Mini Christmas show and doing Apples and Art, I spent yesterday tidying up a messy studio and so took a few images.

I did some repurposing – used some black foam core and nailed it to the wall as a place to stick play stuff that intrigues me. The strips seen hanging from the foam core are from an exercise I did taping off a large sheet and then painting over the whole thing with whatever tools and colours I fancied in the moment.  Removing the tape leaves mini paintings and wonderful painted tape strips to be used as collage in something else.

The computer corner is where I wrote my book titled “Blanche” – historical fiction inspired by events in the life of my great grandmother (available for purchase at  https://www.blurb.ca/b/11529303-blanche )

The table with drawers displaying various supplies is a repurposed beehive, which serves me well for the clutter of supplies I like close to hand.

The canvas hanging on the wall in the image showing my art table is a Posterjack image on canvas that didn’t turn out as expected. I am in the process of covering it over with whatever leftover paints I have on my palette at end of day. It has no current intent but I am looking forward to some fun play as it grows up.  The red set of drawers is my husband’s repurposed tool chest.  I think he’d be happy with it’s second life.

These repurposes are not all new yesterday but they are now tidier than they were and I’m ready to get at ‘er.

  1. Thank you all for sharing a corner of your studio. Very inspiring, as usual. I liked the visual and written creations and the repurposed beehive. I live studio free, therefore I enjoyed the studio tour last month. Looking forward to participating in the October challenge. Have a fantastic day.
