Collectif Challenge: My Inner Self/ Mon moi intérieur

By Victoria Stevenson I think my inner self is a stuffed animal wearing a botched fairy princess costume.

Since Foxy’s a stand-in for me inmy parody YouTube series. I thought she could represent my inner self.

The parody covers the adventures (or misadventures) of a stuffed animal who wants to become an influencer/content creator on YouTube. So, we tackle everything from sponsorships to brand trips to scandals and all the absurdity of life as an influencer.

I don’t make fun of one specific influencer, that would be just meanspirited. I look at the lifestyle as a whole and try to make it funny.

Foxy’s wearing a Bloom from Winx Club cosplay, who is the main character of Winx Club, my favourite cartoon. Sort of like me being an only child: that mindset of being the main character of a show about fairies.

I made the costume and wig (poorly, but it was a first for me making a smaller wig out of a larger wig). It was made out of felt, socks and scrap foam pieces.

By Yvonne Callaway An exercise for an art class many years ago was to create a work and then discuss it in class the following week.

I thought this an intriguing image & started my talk with enthusiasm. However as I chatted on, I realized my painting wasn’t simply a still life. It was a self-portrait. My younger, stylish self (the leopard-print stiletto) confronting a more staid, middle-aged boot. With affection! the lace of the boot reaches through the mirror toward the younger self.

By Milo Smith I made this image for the final show at Brent’s Place. I made it in my living room with little backlighting. I increased the Clarity and Contrast to give it a grumpy old man image.

By Barb Lehtiniemi I’m not sure how well these represent my inner self, but they certainly suggest something (or nothing.)

Kaleidoscope’s burst of colour comes from using an iron to melt shaved pieces of crayons on paper (with waxed paper protecting the iron.)  A fun experiment.

Thought Bubbles is acrylic paint on canvas.  I used the end of an empty paper-towel roll to imprint the circles.  So far I have no thoughts on where this painting is going next!

By Kerry Herwynen MacIntosh I got thinking about this month’s challenge while decorating a new sketchbook. I don’t generally share what’s in, or on my sketchbooks so they contain a lot of me. Not just drawings — painting sketches and collage, often recipes, grocery lists, and random thoughts that make utterly no sense when I re-read them. Hence, the empty head 😵‍💫
