Collectif Challenge: 3Apr2024, Texture

By Yvonne Callaway This work came about by playing with jars of Golden mediums, creating textures with fibre and crackle paste and glass bead gel. As the name suggests, the crackle dries into a crackle pattern, like a dried riverbed. In the mountains I used glass bead gel.

The raw work looks like plaster board, white and ghostly. Then paint is applied. Some of the media (fibre paste) sucks the paint up thirstily, others repel.

I liked the other-worldly, almost abstract result.

By Laura Peck Excerpt of the Christmas novel – with the Easter Bunny pictures

One large pine shelf welcomed the seasonal homemade decorations. Nora had to extend her right arm to reach the handcrafted Christmas items, preciously collected year after year. Now, she was half-way through when something tickled her nose. One tiny soft silky ball. No, two. Three. Not that tiny. Carefully, she brought the twig to her upper lip, so she could relish in the delicate, exquisite texture and the sweet, tender smell of pussy willow. Not any pussy willow. She stepped back to behold what her left hand had seized. A cordial wooden Easter bunny offering her branches of cedar nicely tied to the first signs of spring. The flexible golden cedar contrasted with the strong dark pussy willow. Nora’s palms caressed the colorful cotton ribbon: dancing miniature red hearts, green stems and yellow flowers finely embroidered gave it a unique feel. At this moment, the rugged skilled tanned hands who brought this delightful arrangement from the Alps to Canada, came back in her mind and her soul. “Palmbuschen” had said Anna, almost five years ago. Since then, the two friends discovered that they had a lot more in common.

By Milo Smith I often use raking light to bring out the texture in an object. Sometimes the texture is so strong that no such tricks are needed.  Attached are several examples of texture as I see it.

By Isabelle Utovac I am learning the names of weeds, their uses, and how they are related to plants more acceptable in the garden.

I thought about the texture that the petals give to the overall flower.

J’apprends les noms des mauvaises herbes, leurs usages et comment elles sont liĂ©es aux plantes plus acceptables dans le jardin.

Je pense Ă  la texture que donnent les pĂ©tales Ă  la fleur globale.

  1. Quel dĂ©but de matinĂ©e! Merci pour ces belles images. Voici ce que j’y ai vu: des pĂ©tales soyeux, de l’Ă©corce rugueuse.

Also, woollen muflons, sharp sticks, soft berries and stretchy fabrics… My satisfied senses can now get back to work. I’m ready to write.
